ALEX GREY
Alex Grey is a junior at the university of Rhode island. originally hailing from Burrillville, Rhode Island, he’s working towards a BFA in Fine Arts and a minor in Film. Coming from a background playing video games at an early age, he originally wanted to be a game developer. He switched his focus to becoming a storyboard artist in high school after watching nothing but animated movies and shows for a summer. He started to draw when he was around 6. Trying to be like his cousin who would often show him his various drawings over the years and aspired to be just like him. Today, Alex spends his days consuming that same media he’s loved for the past two decades when he isn’t focused on schoolwork and family.
My goal as an artist is to practice enough to become a talented storyboard artist. I always loved watching cartoons and movies since I was a kid, and I never grew out of watching them. I feel that focusing my talents on becoming a storyboard artist will help me hone my craft and become a versatile storyboard artist for television or film. While I do like to create my own works, I’d feel a lot safer working for a company and getting a weekly paycheck rather than working solo.
I tend to focus on digital drawing, but I do go back to work with pen and paper often. I am well versed with Adobe Creative Cloud and have graphic design experience dating back since high school. I am currently on track to receive a film minor to complete my Art BFA, as I believe it would help my chances of looking like an appealing hire.
This particular work started out as an animatic that would be fully voiced. It’s based off a story I remember from a trip to an amusement park called Lake Compounce I went to a lot in high school. It’s still an interesting story to me after all these years, and I thought it was interesting enough to share to the world. But after the Coronavirus cases started to pile up and the school kicked everybody out, I lost access to the recording booths and ready access to people who would be available to voice act. So, I decided to retool this as a comic. While i am not able to finish al 20+ pages by the time this catalogue is being made, a few select panels and pages will be shown off in this catalogue along with a QR code to a Twitter thread of the full comic. It will take some time to finish it all, so I hope this will do.
