Frequently Asked Questions
How can I show my artwork at the gallery?
There are numerous ways to exhibit your artwork at Hera Gallery. You can either become a gallery member or apply to a juried show. Professional artists working in any media may apply for gallery membership (applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis). There are a few different categories of artist membership, all of which have different benefits and dues. In order to apply to a juried show, check back to our Call for Entry page for information on upcoming exhibitions. You may also submit an exhibition proposal to be considered for review. Please contact the gallery director for more information.
What are the benefits of becoming a Hera contributor?
Community sponsorship of Hera Gallery/ Hera Educational Foundation allows Hera to bring high quality artwork to Southern Rhode Island. Hera relies on private and public funds from individuals and organizations to present exhibitions and programs that challenge perceptions and enrich lives. Donors who give $25 or more become Friends of Hera members and receive a 10% discount on purchases of artwork and event fees and exhibition announcements, newsletters, and mailings.
How can I volunteer?
There are numerous opportunities for you to volunteer at Hera Gallery. Hera invites artists, donors, and community members interested in the arts to serve on our Board of Directors, which determines the gallery's programming, priorities and overall direction during its monthly meetings. Board members are required to serve on at least one committee, such as Fundraising, PR, Membership, or Exhibition/Programming, and occasionally these committees require additional meeting time outside of regular Board meetings.
Volunteers are often needed to assist us during special events, such as our annual fundraiser, or to help us to hang exhibitions, send mailings, re-paint or otherwise maintain the gallery and its grounds, or to advise the Board on an area of expertise relevant to gallery operations. If you are interested in volunteering or serving on the Board, please contact us via email or by phone on (401) 789-1488.
How many exhibitions are there per year?
Hera Gallery currently holds eleven exhibitions per year, and is closed during the month of January. Each exhibition runs for five weeks and six weekends. Solo shows by Full Artist Members take place two at a time, as our gallery space is divided in half.
What other types of programs are offered?
In conjunction with exhibitions, Hera Gallery often hosts artist's talks, readings, performances, as well as workshops, panel discussions, special lectures, and symposia. As a member of the Historic Downtown Merchants Association as well as the Chamber of Commerce, we also work with our community to coordinate with local events. Please check our home page to view our events calendar.
Where is the gallery located and when is it open?
