Artists at all stages of their careers are encouraged to become a member of Hera Gallery. By becoming a participating artist member, you become part of an artistically minded community. In addition to increased visibility on the Hera Gallery website, e-newsletters, mailings and in exhibitions, becoming an artist member allows you to focus on your artistic practice within a constructive and progressive community of peers. Artist members have total creative control over the content, design, and installation of their exhibitions, and take part in shaping the gallery's exhibitions and events programming. Whether you are an emerging, mid-career or professional artist, you will find stimulating events and experiences happening at Hera Gallery, which are sure to augment your studio practice.

Please feel free to submit artist membership applications which are reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year. Please read the short synopses provided below, detailing different privileges and responsibilities of artist membership. For further information regarding applying for membership, please download the Membership Guidelines and Application (pdf files).

Membership Applications are reviewed year-round.

Other Ways to Participate

Artist Non-Members
Artists who are not Hera Gallery members and are interested in exhibiting at Hera Gallery can check the Call for Entry page or contact the gallery directly for information on upcoming exhibition opportunities, such as juried exhibitions.

Non-member artists interested in curating an exhibition can contact the gallery about submitting an exhibition proposal. Proposals are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Curatorial proposals must be for group exhibitions and submitted before March for consideration to be included in the following calendar year.

Community Involvement
One of Hera's strengths is its ability to engage artists, interns, and members of our community in volunteering and serving on our Board of Directors. Learn more about how you can become a patron of the arts by picking up a Friend of Hera "Join" form at the gallery.

Board of Directors
The Hera Gallery leadership invites donors and other community members interested in the arts to serve on our Board of Directors which determines the gallery's programs and priorities and plans the exhibition calendar. The Board meets once a month, and its members serve on committees on Fundraising, Membership, Exhibitions, and Public Relations/Marketing.

Volunteers
Volunteers are always appreciated and welcome to help at Hera Gallery. There are opportunities for volunteers to assist us during events such as our annual fundraisers, special programming, and exhibitions. Volunteers are encouraged to help us to prepare for exhibitions, assist during opening receptions, send mailings, work on our website, or even to help us to maintain our building and small garden. Additionally, volunteers with any relevant special interest or expertise are greatly appreciated for donating their time. Potential volunteers are encouraged to contact the gallery directly, or to stop by and talk to a gallery representative.

Internships
Internships are offered through the University of Rhode Island's Departments of Art and Art History and Women's Studies. Students gain valuable experience working on exhibitions and assisting the Gallery Director with administrative duties. Students are required to commit six hours per week on site, take charge of one project, and receive three credits. Students from other schools should make arrangements with their home institution to transfer their credits.
