Alison Meyer
Alison completed her BFA at the University of Rhode Island. The world of photography and image making has captivated her from a young age. According to the Alzheimer's Association:
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. By 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million.
Almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer's are women.
After witnessing my grandmother Marcia's decline from Alzheimers, I often found myself wondering how she experienced losing herself. These deeply personal images are metaphors of my grandmother's perspective and emotions during this time. From the inside looking outward. During my time living with and caring for her, I did see an array of emotions such as: denial, confusion, frustration, disorientation, anger, anxiety, paranoia, and over all anguish. This introspective photographic series on memory allows viewers to empathize with her experience. Exploring this concept by way of photography was pertinent, as it was my grandparents who originally fostered my passion for photography.
