Elizabeth Witkun
Elizabeth Witkun's love for photography started at a young age when she received a pink plastic 'Barbie' film camera as a gift. As she grew older, Elizabeth's passion for photography only increased. Elizabeth Witkun decided to pursue her studies in Film Media and a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Rhode Island (URI), where she graduated spring 2024. Her studies included digital and film photography. Towards the end of her degree she began her textile journey in 2023, where she self taught herself crochet and began with small projects. After gaining more confidence with the medium she became interested in free from crochet and how open ended it can be.
Elizabeth's work reflects her love for organic beauty, natural elements, and the emotional aspects of our world. She draws inspiration from film media, which is evident in the lighting and composition of her pieces. Elizabeth's ambition as an artist is to continue in an experimental direction, learn more about herself, and view the world from different perspectives. She strives to create work that sparks conversations and emotions, encouraging her viewers to see the world in a new light.
Elizabeth Witkun's artistic journey has seen notable achievements, including producing HERA’s 50th anniversary video in 2024, showed work at Hera as a senior seminar student in spring 2023, winning the URI Bart Parker Photo Award scholarship in the Spring of 2022. Elizabeth has also published an illustration for author Kate Ayers' 2021 book "Gin and Juice Boxes."
With many more experiences and achievements in her future, she is always searching for her next source of inspiration using her photography, and textile talents.
