JORDAN ROSA
This piece, titled Party at Indiana Avenue, is a depiction of the characters I have developed over the years. These characters occupy a space reminiscent of the family gathering in Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s Luncheon of the Boating Party.
For years I have been interested in developing a piece that incorporates a majority of the original characters I have made over the course of my lifetime as an artist. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. To witness culmination of my evolution as an artist all within the span of 21 years all on one piece of paper, interacting and intermingling as if they were old friends is something that I’ve always been interested in making. Renoir’s “Luncheon” reflects the kind of feeling that i want to evoke: a calm, jovial, and enjoyable setting that would be able to immerse whoever is viewing it, envisioning a scenario of themselves placed in a position similar to that, being in a relaxing gathering setting, with a group of their close friends and family enjoying themselves.
My piece was originally being produced on 24x30 paper, sketched with pencil, outlined with Prismacolor pen, and colored with Prismacolor colored pencils for the figures and the background, but after careful consideration I decided to make the transfer to digital. the reason for the switch from physical drawing to digital drawing is because after comparing both processes, the digital drawing can be manipulated more freely, and would result in looking much cleaner and more professional.
