Hera Gallery is pleased to present From the Pastoral to the Political, an exhibition that has artists exploring current issues in food production. Communities across the nation are putting more emphasis on local farming and food co-ops as big agribusinesses are relying more on GMO’s and man-made chemicals such as pesticides. Should food be under control of a few big companies?  Should the government help subsidize more local farming? How has the preservation of land and natural resources become vital?

The following artists from across the United States have answered through visual works in multiple mediums, from oil paintings to video art.

It is important to Hera Gallery that such a themed event be contextualized within our own community. We are excited to say that the Opening Reception will feature local music, the South County Food Co-op and we will have organic vegetable and hors d’oeuvres donated by the Solar Cart Café and the following South County Farms:

The exhibition will take place in Hera Gallery’s location on 10 High Street in Wakefield, RI. The public is invite to attend the From the Pastoral to the Political Opening Reception on Saturday, October 15th from 6 to 8pm, and the lecture featuring Kenneth Ayars, Wednesday October 19th at 7pm

These programs are presented with partial support from The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, Greenview Farm, Hera Educational Foundation, and The Friends of Hera. Hera Gallery is free and open to the public and is accessible to persons with disabilities. Parking is available.
